A pair of magnificent and highly decorative cast iron cannons cast in the manner of 18th century field or siege guns, dramatic and always-admired garden ornaments, each barrel is a beautifully proportioned tapered cylinder with moulded reinforcing rings and a classical breech button, each carriage is a tour de force of classical cast ironwork: deeply pierced side brackets with an arrangement of circles, boss medallions and scrollwork; a panelled cheek section, and a bold curved trail sweeping down to a scroll terminal, the whole rides on large spoke wheels, cast iron throughout, no wood, each 149cm long, 68cm high, 41cm wide. These cannons are extraordinarily effective placed as a pair flanking a gate, entrance drive, terrace step or garden wall. They also make a very striking single ornament in a border or court
