A pair of large very handsome classical cast iron gate posts in natural rusty finish, in the Victorian manner, each post is of square tapering column form, rising from a cast stepped base to a bold cast cap, with a turned ball finial above, the faces are richly decorated, an arched pierced panel to the front with shell head at the top, flowing scrollwork and foliate decoration, and a dramatic lion mask to the lower section, all beautifully formed in heavy cast iron, the sides carry rose medallion panels, each post 160cm high overall, the bases 40cm x 40cm, 100kg, exactly the kind of pieces that defines an entrance and sets the tone of a formal garden, the posts are also used to support cast iron fence panels, these posts work equally well flanking a gate, as freestanding piers flanking steps or a path, or as entrance markers to a lawn or terrace, the weight requires professional delivery.
