A late Victorian black leather rectangular writing slope, Dispatch & Writing Case, Registered No. 3395, by Toulmin & Gale, Sise Lane City & New Bond Street, London, hinged cover enclosing a black morocco interior with a stationery rack fitted with epistolary accessories, fastened in place by a catch, itself revealing a further compartment, the plateau with a pair of 12mo floppy diary and cash notebooks, a pair of brass-mounted leather bound toleware ink wells centred by a further covered recess enclosing three small square divisions, the front inset with a six-day calendar and a fall front, presenting a bipartite writing slope and blotting book, the exterior tooled throughout with pinstripes, Toulmin Patent Bramah-type lock, flush brass 'Campaign' carrying handle, the exterior tooled throughout with pinstripes, 18cm high, 41.5cm wide, c. 1885
