£420
An Ashford Marble baluster candle stick, turned with central girdle and knopped socle, dished circular base and inlaid in white and green with flowering stems, silver plated sconce and drip pan, 27cm high; an Ashford Marble rounded rectangular ink stand, the ogee moulded base inlaid with Lily of the valley and Forget Me Nots, stepped rectangular clear glass inkwell with faceted hinged cover, bun feet, 25cm wide, 15.5cm deep; an Ashford Marble rectangular easel photograph frame or mirror frame, inlaid with flowering stems, otherwise quite plain, 20.5cm high, 16cm wide
More Information
The ink stand has tiny chips to the lower edge of the glass inkwell, not visible when the inkwell sits in the marble base. Four tiny sections of stem missing to the inlay on the base and minor chipping around the edge where the inkwell sits into the base. Three feet with evidence of regluing to base.
The candlestick has a substantial chip, 3.5cm x 0.75cm to the underside of the dished base. However a small part of this chip is visible from the upper side. A second minor chip on the foot rim. Old traces of bitumen joining the baluster section to the dished circular base. Possibly at the time of manufacture, if so a little clumsy. If after manufacture, certainly done int he 19th century. The overall form of this piece is unusual and on reflection, the silver plated nozzle is contemporary however it has almost certainly been plated. If the nozzle is a later replacement, it is hard to imagine what form the original piece took as there are no marks to sides where handles would have been attached if it had originally been a ewer.
The main frame is in relatively good condition. The easel stand is missing from the back and the oval attached area remains. The inner edge of the frame is roughly finished and would almost certainly have originally benefitted from a gilt metal slip that is now lacking. Several small nibbles to the inner edge of the frame, otherwise good.
