Victorian Royal Navy Officers Sword attributed to Staff Commander John James Atkins Grovener RN. Complete with his Officers Log book detailing service from 1855 to 1882. Sword has a single edged blade with etched decoration 710mm in length, Proof marked along with makers mark for "Seagrove, The Hard, Portsea". Queens Crown to the guard, wire bound shagreen grip, complete with knot. Lions Head Pommel. Overall length 880mm.Leather scabbard with brass fittings, again maker marked "EA Seagrove, The Hard, Portsea." (The makers markings date the sword between 1866 and 1892.) Ship on which he served included HMS Sphinx, Royal Adelaide, Cumberland, Fawn, Formidable, Frederick William, Victory, Dasher, Zealous, Pembroke, Penelope etc.

More Information

Some rust patches to both sides of the blade. Some very small loss to metal at edge of blade where rusted. Seam to leather scabbard has come apart due to rotted stitching.
