Fees

A 19th century Anglo-Indian silver campana shaped two-handled cup, of substantial gauge, boldly cast with fruiting vine, inscribed Harriet Hannyngton, The Gift of Her Affectionate Friends Fanny & Richard Duseley, 12cm high, Hamilton & Co, Calcutta, c.1835, 338g

The inscription probably refers to the wife of Major General John Caulfield Hannyngton (1807 - 1885/6), an Irish-born officer in the Regiment of Native Infantry, serving during the supression of the Colekan Rebellion and at the time of the Indian Mutiny. He is best remembered as a mathmatician, and his invention of a slde rule for astronomical calculations
