***Provenance, library of (John) Talbot Clifton (1868-1928), prolific traveller, naturalist, game hunter who inherited an estate at Lytham, Lancs., in 1882 and in 1907 married Hon. Violet Beauclerk, grand-daughter of the 8th Duke of St. Albans. The couple in 1922 purchased Kildalton Castle, Islay, which had been built 1867-70 by John Burnett for John Ramsay MP. After Clifton’s death the house became increasingly neglected being ultimately sold and is currently ruinous
