Frank Dawson-Smith (1866-1920) was born in Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire, and became a schoolmaster at Derwent House School, Bamford. In 1914 he enlisted, survived World War One, but remained in the army. While serving as a lieutenant in the King's African Rifles, commanding a Somali platoon in Jubaland (Somali/Kenya border), his troops mutinied and he was murdered.
