India - a Raj period Indian Army Artillery hanger or short sword, the plain, unfullered blade with a four inch false edge at the tip. stirrup type guard two characters on the outer edge, possibly Devangi script and likely a unit designation, Cavalry pattern leather grip The construction of this weapon is very similar to a British cavalry sword of the period, such as the 1853 ''universal'' pattern, which is riveted in a similar fashion and with the same ''tear drop'' pommel
