Local interest - a collection of deeds relating to the Sinfin House estate and a farm at Barrow-on-Trent, Derbyshire, held by the Bancroft family, comprising eight on vellum, fifteen on paper, ranging in date from the will of Gervase Bancroft 1728 to a 1914 abstract of title, and including a few miscellaneous documents, including two lawyer's pedigrees of the family (qty) The Bancrofts originated in Chellaston in the late 15th century as freehold farmers the most celebrated member of which was Thomas Bancroft (1595-1658) the poet and epigramist who wrote The Glutton's Feaver (sic), parodying both Johnson and Shakespeare. He died at Bradley during the Commonwealth. Gervase Bancroft, the first of the family mentioned in the deeds was the poet's second-cousin once removed. The family had held their land at Barrow since the late 16th century.
