Dr John Bannard compiled this collection of oil paintings, and watercolours over the course of up to 50 years, with many of the works being purchased directly form the artists themselves. Many of the works, particularly the Cornish School examples, were acquired when the artists were in the early stages of their professional careers. The lifelong ambition of Dr John Bannard was to open a Gallery upon his retirement, an ambition which sadly he was never able to realise, as he retired at the age of 82!
