£320
A 17th century oak Wainscot armchair, arched cresting rail carved with stiff leaves and the initials SB, rectangular back carved with lunettes and a central rosette in a lozenge border, downswept arms, turned arm posts, rectangular stretchers, ball feet, 106cm high, 56cm wide, the seat 39cm deep
More Information
The chair joints are rather loose. The junction between seat and back has quite a large degree of movement, as do the joints between arms and seat. The rear legs each have repairs, the lower halves having been replaced on each. Some losses to side of one stretcher. General wear, commensurate with age, adding a lot of character to the piece. Good warm colour to the oak.
The chair would really need some professional attention before general use, although it can be sat on as it is, it’s just not too comfortable at the moment with the afore mentioned movement in the joints. Any restoration works carried out would be well worth the effort.
