A late 19th century/early 20th century German novelty musical automaton group, ‘The Musician and Dancer', comprising a Schoenau & Hoffmeister/Porzellanfabrik Burggrub (Germany) bisque head doll, dressed in costume and holding a lute, inset fixed blue glass eyes, painted features including fine eyelashes and brown feathered eyebrows, open mouth revealing upper teeth, impressed marks, the bisque shoulder head dancer, dressed in a silk dress with lace detail, inset fixed blue glass eyes, painted features including fine eyelashes and brown feathered eyebrows, she stands upon a circular platform, the group mounted upon a rectangular shaped wooden box applied with printed paper, brass crank handle, the box fitted with a musical mechanism which when wound plays Boccherini’s string quintet Minuet, the musician moves the head from side to side and the free arm moves back and forth above the lute whilst the dancer rotates, 37cm high, 25cm wide, 15cm deep
