A pair of large and exceptionally ornate waisted cast iron urns, in natural rust finish, on pedestal stands, of great quality and presence, the body of each urn richly decorated with a deeply modelled acanthus and scroll cartouche to each face, surrounded by swirling foliage and classical details throughout, the upper rim carries egg-and-dart moulding, the lower body and pedestal are elaborately detailed with further acanthus leaf work and gadrooning, the square cast iron pedestal bases cast to each face with laurel wreath, with ribbon tied bows above and scrolling acanthus below, fine and crisp and densely worked, the moulded cornice and base complete the composition, each urn on pedestal 155cm high, 45cm wide, 150kg (each), the forms are tall and imposing, making outstanding statement pieces for a principal garden position flanking steps or as a focal point on a wide terrace, they equally suit very well the modern garden design Please note that all lots in this auction are held offsite and collection would be from Windsor Classical Gardens in Datchet (SL3) and would be strictly by appointment arranged through Bamfords Auctioneers on 01332 210000.
