Two Victorian Letter Books, the property of and inscribed by Richard Snead-Cox (1820-1899), of Broxwood Court, Pembridge, Herefordshire, a substantial Roman Catholic landowner in the county and Oxford, consecutive volumes 8 & 9 for June 12th 1876-November 14th 1879 & November 15th 1879-June 30th 1882 respectively, the majority of copied letters addressed from his ancestral home with a not insubstantial number also addressed during a Continental sojourn from Quai Long, Bruges, Belgium, a handful of epistles from further English addresses, each letter copied/transposed in ink MS on tissue paper leaves, each collection prefaced by an alphabetically arranged index of recipients and their corresponding letter numbers, contemporary half-calf over harlequin boards of moiré and marbled paper, the spies lettered in gilt, harlequin marbled endpapers, each cover applied with ink MS paper labels of the time covered, the spine of volume 8 only numbered thus, 4to, (2); another of Snead-Cox's similar but earlier letter books, Wedgwood's Patent Improved Copy Book [...], copies of a handful of letters from 1851, contemporary marbled wrappers, advertising label to upper-cover, 4to, (1); two loosely inserted manuscript letters to Snead-Cox; a 20th century lady's manuscript commonplace book, Poems and Quotations, by Dorothy M Betts (née Bridge), partially-inscribed from 19th December 1938 to 11th May 1942, cloth, 4to, (1), [4]
