A Lease 1875 from Duchy of Lancaster, of Tutbury Castle with 26 acres, vellum with seal of Prince of Wales in tin. Tutbury Castle was the caput of the Honour of Tutbury, one of the vast possesions of the de Ferrers, Earls of Derby. When the last Earl was attainted after the Barons' War in 1268, his estates passed to the Crown and were later granted to the Duke of Lancaster, merging with the Crown again with the accession of Henry IV in 1399. The Duchy of Lancaster thereafter became one of the Crown estates, and despite the sale of a considerable amount of its manorial holdings under Charles I, still exists as an entity today and still owns the Castle which continues to be leased out.
