Persifor Fraser (1736 - 1792) joined the army as a captain in the 4th Pennsylvania Regiment in 1776, was appointed major of the 5th Pennsylvania Regiment in October of that year and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in March 1777. He was captured by the British shortly after the Battle of Brandywine in September 1777 but escaped in March 1778. After holding various local government positions in Chester County he joined the local militia as a Brigadier General in 1782
